Pele says Maradona better than Messi - USA

Messi update

England legend Gary Lineker has reacted to Pele's statement claiming that Lionel Messi "only has one skill" by revealing other comparisons.

The Brazil great is regarded by many observers to the greatest footballer of all time but has seen this status come under scrutiny on account of Messi's phenomenal exploits for Barcelona over the past decade. He's got great partners, excellent, although they do not always have the same chance to get on the field.

There are many who consider Messi to be the finest player to have ever played the game, with a five-time Ballon d'Or victor boasting countless records and a stunning strike rate.

During the interview, he was asked whether he agreed with opinions of modern-day legends Xavi and Iniesta, who claim Messi is the best player in the world, to which he replied with a brutal remark, pointing out that the superstar only possesses a single skill and can't score headers. Pele said he used to head the ball well, shoot with the left foot as well as the right foot but the current Argentina star Messi just shoots from one foot and does not even head the ball well.

When it comes to comparing Pele and Messi, a huge factor will always be the World Cup.

Three-time World Cup victor Pele had a talk to his fellow Santos product about his actions, which he found tough to reconcile. Much better. (Franz) Beckenbauer, (Johan) Cruyff are also better.

But, Pele has also chosen Messi over Ronaldo in the past, for the Argentine's all-round talent compared to his rival's pure goalscoring ability.

Pele tallied over 1,000 career goals and won three World Cups, but it doesn't mean that Messi shouldn't be compared to him.

"I've been with him in Europe twice". We talked and I told him: 'In soccer, God gave you a gift, but what you did is what made it hard.

Pele added, "As far as I'm concerned, Maradona was one of the best players ever".
