Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray wins Davey O'Brien Award

Murray was the most exciting player in college football this season and his success has many thinking he could reverse course and choose the NFL over the Major League Baseball.

The future pro baseball player was honored with the Davey O'Brien Award on Thursday night at the College Football Awards Show.

But, after an electrifying season that saw Murray eviscerate opposing defenses on his way to becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist, the 21-year-old might be eyeing a more exclusive path. The other finalists for the Walter Camp were Murray, Minshew, West Virginia quarterback Will Grier and Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen.

Murray beat out Tagovailoa and Washington State's Gardner Minshew II for the Davey O'Brien. It goes to the player of the year. Tagovailoa received 13 first-place votes (117 points) and Haskins was listed first on four ballots (55 points). And only five Heisman winners have failed to win AP Player of the Year since the award started in 1998. The last Maxwell/Davey O'Brien split among quarterbacks came in 2016 when Lamar Jackson won the Maxwell Award and Deshaun Watson won the Davey O'Brien Award.

This year's Heisman Trophy ceremony will be aired on ESPN at 7 p.m. CT from the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square. He's also rushed for 892 yards and 11 scores.

Murray leads the country in total offense (4,945 yards), points responsible for (306) and passing efficiency (205.7). Murray, who batted.296 with 10 home runs and 13 doubles in 50 games as the Sooners' center fielder, signed for almost $5 million, with the A's agreeing to let him return to school and play football this season.

Kyler Murray's football career should be winding down over the next month as the Oklahoma Sooners quarterback is expected to join the Oakland Athletics in spring training in 2019.

"It's been a long journey with a lot of waiting, but I think it's all been worth it", Murray said.
