Newport County's rush goalie Joe Day greeted by twins after cup exit

Tony Pulis and Michael Flynn

Newport will be the lowest-ranked side Guardiola has faced in his three seasons at Manchester City, but Flynn can take heart from last year's FA Cup, when League One Wigan beat the Premier League champions in the fifth round.

Goals from Robbie Willmott and Padraig Amond gave Newport a 2-0 replay win over Middlesbrough, and set up a dream home tie with Manchester City on Feb 16, but there was no time for the Newport goalkeeper to join in the post-match celebrations.

They now face high-flying Leeds on Saturday in a match that could have a big bearing on promotion.

A penalty appeal for handball by Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton was waved away and 40-year-old Greek goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos made a string of saves to keep Tony Pulis' side level at halftime.

The goal sparked wild celebrations as Newport, 14th in League Two, reached the fifth round for the first time since 1949.

As soon as the game was over and we'd won, he said, 'Gaffer, thank you so much, Can I go please?' "We're absolutely over the moon and the midwives have been so good with me".

I said, 'Of course you can.

"He sprinted off, it's the quickest I've seen him move, and all our thoughts are with Joe and Lizzie and the arrival of the twins".

Matt Doherty's second-minute goal opened the scoring but goals from James Bolton and Josh Laurent put Shrewsbury in front in the tie once more. "We might get a rugby game on to make it interesting".
