New Monopoly tokens revealed, find out what got the boot

The boot, wheelbarrow, and thimble have been ousted, and in their place will come the Tyrranosaurus rex, rubber ducky, and penguin tokens.

This isn't the first time that Hasbro has held a contest to create a new edition of the game.

The wheelbarrow, boot and 82-year-old thimble have been axed by popular demand and will join the likes of the iron token in retirement.

Some of the new token designs that did not make the cut were a hashtag, winking emoji and a Mr Monopoly emoji.

At the start of the year, Hasbro announced it was putting the future of Monopoly into the hands of people on the internet.

Scottie Dog Token: The best friend of Mr. MONOPOLY since the 1950s, the Scottie Dog token proved its popularity by receiving the most votes - making it the overall first place victor.

More than 4.3 million votes were submitted from a list of 64 contenders in order to decide which eight tokens would be selected. Now, players will be able to choose between the three new tokens, as well as a battleship, a top hat, a race vehicle, and a cat, who until just now was the most-recent addition to the Monopoly crew. Replacing the trio are a t-rex, penguin and rubber duck.

Monopoly's staid stable of tokens is in for a shakeup, and the boot is getting the boot. The existing Scottish terrier, battleship, racecar, top hat and cat tokens will carry on.

If you're mad for Monopoly, you'll be sad to learn of the departure of three iconic game pieces.

The vote order for these final, top eight were: Scottie 212,476, T-Rex 207,954, top hat 167,582, vehicle 165,083, duck 160,485, cat 154,165, penguin 146,661 and battleship 134,704.

Monopoly was released in 1935 and World Monopoly Day is on March 19.
