(KMAland) - The NCAA selected host sites for championship events in Divisions I, II and III as well as No Class sports for the 2017-18 through 2021-22 seasons. Florida State was named the host for five NCAA events including the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships.

The number of championships Pittsburgh was awarded is a product of a more concerted effort to attract large events to a city not necessarily known for them.

The announcements were made by the NCAA on Tuesday.

In addition to swimming duties, Greensboro will host the 2022 D3 outdoor track & field championships, the D3 men's soccer championships from 2018-2021, and Division I basketball regionals in 2019 and 2020.

The UMHB athletic department has hosted numerous NCAA football and basketball postseason contests and also hosted a men's soccer First Round game in 2009.

Also announced today, Clemson will host a 2020 Golf Regional in Salem and Greenville will host a 2020 Women's Basketball Regional. It's just the second time that Pitt has hosted the NCAA Championships and first since 1957.
