Mourinho wants this player instead of Ronaldo

He said United should not be aiming any lower than winning the Champions League next year

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has urged the club to shun compatriot and Ballon d'Or victor Cristiano Ronaldo in favour of Premier League star Harry Kane, according to a report in the Mirror.

The Tottenham striker is admired by Jose Mourinho, who wants to bring him to Old Trafford no matter the cost.

The Red Devils boss is understood to have made it clear that he is not interested in the prospect of Ronaldo's Old Trafford return.

The 23-year-old was 20/1 to sign for United this summer prior to this morning. United also love Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich but a serious investment in the Polish forward is hard with him turning 29 this summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson would have made absolutely damned sure that the player in question either became a Manchester United footballer or was at least knocked worryingly off his stride like the exhausted steeplechaser who catches the final hurdle...

With a team like Real Madrid, one can afford to let a player like Ronaldo rest.

He's been linked with a move to Arsenal and if a striker was to make way it would surely be him rather than Marcus Rashford, the brightest young talent at the club.

The "Special One" wants the England worldwide to partner Morata upfront as the Reds' have Premier League title ambitions.

Considering how Harry Kane has finished the season as top goal scorer in the Premier League for two seasons in a row, there should be plenty more transfer gossip about the Spurs striker.

In fact, Harry Kane seems like the ideal prospect for United's frontline.

The Englishman was in phenomenal form this year as he won the Premier League's Golden Boot for a second consecutive year.
