If a tornado warning is issued in your area, the National Weather Service says to immediately take shelter in a basement or lower-level room away from windows.
A local group is heading to Alto and Franklin to help those impacted by a tornado and severe storms that swept through the state Saturday, killing two children. At least 11 tornadoes have touched down in three different states as a result of a stronger-than-usual storm system.
The roof of a hotel in New Albany, Mississippi, was damaged, although the cause was unclear.
Robertson County Sheriff Gerald Yezak told The Associated Press a tornado hit the small Central Texas city of Franklin, overturning mobile homes and damaging other residences.
In East Texas, authorities say two children were killed when high winds toppled a tree onto the back of the family auto while it was in motion. Franklin is about 125 miles south of Dallas. The parents in the front seats were not hurt.
Winds reached 60 miles per hour in Binghamton, the weather service said, as lines of severe thunderstorms rolled into the Northeast Sunday night.
"It looks like a storm came up through Louisiana and into MS and exploded in Monroe County", Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told CNN.
