John Beilein made the leap from West Virginia to Michigan to now the Cavaliers

There was no such thing as the Monday morning blahs for college basketball this Monday, not with the jarring news that John Beilein is leaving MI to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have hired John Beilein as the team's new head coach.

Cleveland will provide Beilein with his first crack at National Basketball Association success after the 66-year-old coach flourished at the high school and college levels. Beilein is the father of Patrick Beilein, current head basketball coach at Niagara University.

The Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic both pursued Beilein during their coaching searches past year, but he chose to remain in Ann Arbor.

Beilein is replacing Larry Drew, who was named head coach after Tyronn Lue was sacked.

Financials terms of Beilein's contract have not been released. Per Wojnarowski, Beilein has been reassured by owner Dan Gilbert that his value system will be installed with the Cavs.

Beilein succeeds Larry Drew in Cleveland.

The Cavs lost their final game of 2018-19, capping a 19-63 finish.

Manuel says he has "already received a significant number of calls and a lot of interest in the potential for this position".
