When Floyd Mayweather took the floor (actually he was seated on a couch), he was relaxed and composed and introspective and his comments were largely free of the vulgarities that marked the Mayweather-McGregor pre-fight four-city tour. "A billion-dollar event. I think we both owe the fans, everyone that's tuned in - I think we both should give them excitement".
Photos of the leak and the characterization of Malignaggi being knocked down caused the New Yorker Malignaggi to storm out of McGregor's training camp, calling McGregor a "scumbag" as he asked for the full length sparring session to be released.
The final straw for Malignaggi was a picture of McGregor standing menacingly over him, which many believed was the aftermath of a knockdown. The sparring partners that were in the house with him were anxious that night, saying he's incoherent, he's stumbling.
"He's a scumbag", Malignaggi said of McGregor. There are certain levels you don't stoop to and certain levels you just don't go to. He was certainly badly concussed.
"This is a fight that has been in my crosshairs since Floyd's been opening his mouth, simple as that", McGregor said of his decision to chase a match-up against one of the greatest boxers of all time.
McGregor worked out for about an hour and a half, hitting the bags and putting on a show for the media assembled. I heard Paulie was getting the best of him. "He got his ass whooped, he got his pride dented, and then he wanted a way out. I can say that after the fight is over on August 26, everyone is going to be happy".
Mays on how Mayweather treats his teammates: "Floyd is real respectful, man. Treats you good, pays good". I've been pushed really hard by the young guys in camp.
"I'm scheduling bouts with opponents, telling them what I'm going to do to them and how I'm going to do it". I am coming sprinting at you with bricks.
McGregor, 29, said it was "sad the way it ended", but that it probably wasn't going to end any other way.
Mayweather on Thursday called Malignaggi a friend. It's my same old routine but I'm older now so I have to let the body rest a lot more.
