Manchester City Facing a Costly UEFA Champions League Ban

Tottenham, who produced a superb comeback to beat Ajax Amsterdam in the semi-final and reach their first Champions League final, will hope to use the gap to their advantage with top striker Harry Kane recovering from an ankle injury.

The song cites fans being "battered in the streets" and "crying in the stands" and includes a line on Liverpool forward Mo Salah being injured - but with the original culprit, Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos, changed to City defender Vincent Kompany.

"Manchester City football club is disappointed, but regrettably not surprised, by the sudden announcement of the referral to be made by the CFCB IC chief investigator Yves Leterme", the club said.

Leterme and his team have been looking at evidence first uncovered in a series of leaks published by the German newspaper Der Spiegel previous year.

If City are thrown out of next season's Champions League, I would expect them to run away with the Premier League title and have it all-but wrapped up by February, as they did last season. City were fined £49m in 2014 for a previous breach of regulations.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp knows only minor tinkerings are needed this summer after seeing his club finish agonisingly short of winning the Premier League title. "The accusation of financial irregularities are entirely false, and comprehensive proof of this fact has been provided to the CFCB IC", the statement concluded.

What are the FFP rules?

UEFA said it does not comment on ongoing Financial Fair Play investigations. Europe's governing football body has leaked information regarding an investigation into Manchester City's financial matters, with a potential breach in financial fair play being the major reason.

Has anyone been punished before?

Tottenham duo Jan Vertonghen and Harry Kane are on course to return for the Champions League final against Livepool.

Paris Saint-German received similar punishment in the same year. However, Klopp has a different plan this year and with a few weeks as a break he plans to use to as a preseason to the final and will be training the Reds hard.
