On July 28, 2010, the body of 34-year-old Lorenzen Wright was found decomposing in suburban Memphis.
Billy Turner, 46, was arrested and indicted on the charge of first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond, as the D.A. told the website that the investigation into the case continues.
His ex-wife, Sherra Robinson, told authorities that he left the home on July 18 with drugs and $110K.
Last month, one of the guns police think was used to kill Wright was found in a MS lake.
During his career, Wright was a 6-11 center who played for teams such as the L.A. Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, and Memphis Grizzlies.
The former basketball player spent his collegiate days at Memphis, where he blossomed into a star.
"He was a young man who never forgot who he was, where he came from, the values that shaped him and the people who encouraged him along the way", then-Memphis mayor A.C. Wharton said at the time, per The Commercial Appeal. Authorities said they heard a man cursing, followed by number gunshots on the call, according to The New York Times.
The next day police received a phone call from Wright's cellphone, but it was interrupted by gunfire, according to the D.A. "They said they found the murder weapon".
There was a $21,000 reward being offered for any information leading to an arrest. Authorities in Collierville were accused of dragging their feet in the days after the report was filed, and an apparent lack of communication kept authorities from linking the 911 call to the missing-person report.
The corpse was badly decomposed, weighing 57 pounds (25 kilograms).Wright's playing weight was around 225 pounds (100 kilograms).
