A K-9 unit takes part in a search and rescue operation for missing Nora Quoirin

"We are appealing to anyone who has information about Nora to help us find her", said a family statement.

The search and rescue team has now found footprints, believed to be the teenager's, in a dense jungle near the isolated resort from where Nora vanished, according to the Sun.

Officials are playing a recording of the girl's mother calling "Nora, Nora darling, mummy's here" through loudspeakers in the hope of drawing her out of the jungle, if she is still there.

Meabh and Sebastian Quoirin, whose 15-year-old daughter Nora has been missing since last Sunday, addressed a gathering in the Dusun forest on the Malay peninsula to say "terima kasih" ('thank you' in Malay) to those searching for her.

Mr Zakaria said the girl's mother flew in to Malaysia from Singapore, while her husband and children arrived from London the same day.

A genie is an invisible spirit Muslims believe can inhibit the Earth and influence mankind by appearing in the form of human beings or animals. "She is here now, so we will stay here tonight to see if we can find her then we can know why she went missing", said shaman Mohd Khalid Mohamed. That will be between me and them.

"The National Crime Agency, the Met Police and the Irish police are working together to help and support the Malaysian authorities relating to Nora Quoirin's disappearance", confirmed a spokesperson from the National Crime Agency.

"Nora can read like a young child, but she cannot write more than a few words".

The family has said they remain hopeful after police leading the investigation refused to rule out a "criminal element".

Handlers have been roaming the dense terrain of the forest surrounding the eco-resort with cadaver dogs.

It is learned that the meeting with the SAR operation team was held in the resort.

Mukhlis said rescue teams are optimistic that the girl will soon be found alive and that the operation would also focus on hills in the jungle because she could be hiding behind trees or rocks.

The teenager has learning disabilities, her family added.

She was discovered missing by her father Sebastien at around 8am on August 4 but her parents have told police they were not woken by any unusual noises.
