Arsenal later confirmed Koscielny had joined Bordeaux.

And with Koscielny showing no interest in changing his mind following their return from the US Arsenal brought a swift end to the saga by agreeing a deal with Bordeaux. Since then, though he's returned to the field, he has seemed to be a step slower than before, which is understandable.

Arsenal will kick off their Premier League campaign with a trip to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon. Or will Rob Holding and Calum Chambers he asked to take a huge jump in their careers and lead this team back to the Champions League.

Sources told ESPN that the France centre-back arrived in Bordeaux on Monday - the same day that an agreement was reached between the two clubs - and completed a medical on Tuesday before signing a contract.

The 33-year-old, who turns 34 in September, was down to the final year of his contract in the English capital and wanted to cancel the final year of his deal to leave the club for nothing.

As far as I am concerned he is no better than Robin van Persie, and now he has gone I do not wish him the best of luck, he simply does not deserve it.

The France worldwide joined Arsenal in 2010 from Lorient for a reported fee of £8.45 million and went on to make 353 appearances, before being made captain during the 2016-17 season.

He will provide much-needed defensive reinforcement for Girondins, who saw first-choice centre-back Jules Koundé move to Sevilla earlier in the transfer window.
