Stephen Paddock killed 59 and wounded hundreds over a period of about 10 minutes

Marilou Danley, who is believed to have moved in with the Las Vegas mass murderer in his Mesquite, Nev., home earlier this year, was expected to return to the USA today.

Before Stephen Paddock opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel into a crowd of some 22,000 concertgoers in Las Vegas Sunday night, the man now responsible for the deadliest mass shooting in United States history grew up in Southern California and attended high school in Sun Valley.

Paddock killed himself after mowing down the concert-goers.

The Philippines' National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said the FBI, its USA counterpart, had sought help in finding Danley.

However, it was revealed on Tuesday that Paddock wired $100,000 to a bank account in the Philippines, Danley's home country, a week before carrying out the attack. "He was so rude to her in front of us".

A search of Paddock's vehicle turned up a supply of ammonium nitrate, a fertilizer that can be formed into explosives and was used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing of a federal office building that killed 168 people, Lombardo said earlier.

Workers at Stephen Paddock's local Starbucks immediately remembered the tall man with a big beer belly and bags under his eyes who used to come in with his girlfriend, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Eric Paddock said she might not be able to give investigators the clues they are hoping for.

"I anticipate he was looking for anybody coming to take him into custody", Lombardo said.

Police said Paddock strafed the concert crowd with bullets for nine to 11 minutes before taking his own life, and had set up cameras inside and outside his hotel suite so he could see police as they closed in on his location.

At this point, Paddock's motive and aims remain a mystery to investigators.

Snyder said Paddock had rigged 12 semi-automatic rifles with devices that allowed the guns to fire like an automatic weapon. "He loved her. He doted on her". At the time of the massacre, Paddock was living in Mesquite, Nevada, a short distance from Las Vegas.

"It just blew me away", said Rod Sweningson.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo named the 62-year-old as a "person of interest" shortly after the mass shooting Sunday night.

Paddock transferred $100,000 to the Philippines in the days before the shooting, a US official briefed by law enforcement but not authorized to speak publicly because of the continuing investigation told the AP on condition of anonymity. But officials haven't been able to say exactly when the money transfer took place or who was the recipient.

She is believed to have one sister still living in Australia. He said he expected to release a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities also found thousands of rounds of ammunition in Paddock's Mesquite home, and an ingredient used in explosives was discovered inside the killer's vehicle.
