Lakers' Rondo out up to four weeks with broken hand

He was able to follow that up with a game-changing play in last Sunday's 107-106 win over the Atlanta Hawks where he able to get his fingertips on a potentially game-winning layup by rookie point guard Trae Young in the final seconds of the fourth quarter.

The Lakers' latest victory came on Wednesday night as they beat the Portland Trail Blazers 126-117, with James notching up 44 points to go fifth on the National Basketball Association all-time scorers list.

ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk stated that Rondo will undergo surgery within the next 24 hours for his injury.

Rondo checked out of the game with 5:20 left in the fourth quarter.

The only downside for the Lakers came with an injury to Rajon Rondo, who faces at least two weeks on the sidelines after suffering a broken hand.

The Lakers (7-6) have won three in a row to get them over.500 for the first time this season.

"Anytime my name is mentioned with some of the greats to play this game, I always think back to my hometown, where I come from, how far I've come", James said.

James fell just short of the 75th triple-double of his career during his most impressive performance since joining the Lakers in the offseason, finishing with what CBSSports.com's Jack Maloney called "a monster stat line of 44 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and three blocks". "He's one of our captains, one of our leaders". "When he comes in, the pace goes however he wants it to go, (he) gets everybody in their spots, so that's what I try to do". Next man up. Next man up.

"Rondo does a lot for our team, you know?"

The Los Angeles Lakers will be without one of their top point guards for a while. But he helped stabilize the Lakers' second unit and finished some games for Walton.

Rondo, who is averaging 8.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, has been a key contributor off the bench.

Lonzo Ball has since taken over starting point guard duties and will likely see more playing time in Rondo's absence. Knows all the plays. So it's going to be tough having him out. "He'll still be talking to us so definitely, his leadership will still be here".

Walton could opt to use Ingram for some minutes at backup point guard as well.
