Winning the pole for this year's Daytona 500, he led 39 laps and was a favorite to win before fading to 14th place.

It didn't happen. In fact, this sophomore crashed out of both events. The former driver turned co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing took to Twitter.

In the meantime, while Elliott tries to stay patient young rivals have charged ahead.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. created a stir in early June when he named 10 drivers to watch after he retires at the end of this season.

Ty Dillon ($6,100) - Dillon should be a lock for cash games starting dead last this week.

Chase Elliott finished second for a third consecutive race at MI.

Can his son finally follow suit? Blaney moved into 12th place with the win. And Kevin Harvick placed tenth at 199.540 miles per hour.

"It would allow us to do more of the tests, and that's where you get faster", Jones said. But with two wins, Bell is all but assured of a playoff spot.

Jimmie Johnson and sponsor Lowe's have signed contract extensions with Hendrick Motorsports. Nobody else has more than four. He also lost positions-second to Truex and third to Busch.

Larson's first victory in the Monster Energy Cup series came last season on this same track in Brooklyn, Mich. Day will run with BK Racing next weekend at Sonoma and becomes the first Israeli to reach NASCAR's top level. Unless rain becomes an issue, Sunday promises to see a race run under hot, sticky, and sunny conditions, with the potential of temperatures in the mid-to-high 80s, maybe even reaching into the low 90s. Kyle Larson passed Kyle Busch to take the lead with 15 laps remaining, then withstood a sequence of late restarts to win the FireKeepers Casino 400 Sunday at Michigan International Speedway. Expect the upward trend to continue.

Rookie Erik Jones and Chase Elliott, who both made Earnhardts list, have run well this season. How about Chris Buescher. 20th in the June race a year ago, his new JTG Daugherty team is a virtual unknown but could use pit strategy to race its way to the front.

Kyle Larson has found his way back to two places where he'd like to spend a lot of time: Victory Lane and atop the standings.

His vehicle may be blue, but Martin Truex Jr. isn't. "I'd like to think that, at least". "We're hoping that in the next couple of weeks we could take that next step".

All he does is deliver Top 5s at MI, and he has a series-best seven over the last eight races here, including five second-place finishes.
