Kick away unequal U.S. Soccer team pay: Darcy cartoon

The last ticker tape parade was held in July 2015 after the women' national team defeated Japan 5-2 to win the World Cup, according the Alliance's records.
For Rapinoe and other veterans of the USA women's team, New York's Canyon of Heroes is familiar ground: They were treated to a parade there in 2015, after their last World Cup win. As Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Co. knocked off one opponent after another and asserted their squad's dominance on the global stage, a major subplot was a gender discrimination lawsuit the team filed earlier this year against the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Manchin said he was inspired by a letter from the head women's soccer coach at West Virginia University, Nikki Izzo-Brown, who said it was wrong for women players to be paid and valued less for their efforts. "The clear unequitable pay between the US men's and women's soccer teams is unacceptable and I'm glad the US Women's Soccer Team latest victory is causing public outcry", Manchin said in a statement. "They are the best in the world and deserve to be paid accordingly".
How? Well, with the 2026 World Cup coming to the United States as part of a joint bid with Canada and Mexico, Manchin's bill would seek to cut off any federal funding that would go towards the event. "So I think in a lot of ways, this team has been, I guess you could call it, single destiny with this fight for equal pay". The women's games have also garnered higher ratings and more revenue in recent years.
The U.S. men's team failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, held in Russian Federation, and will attempt to make the field for the 2022 tournament, to be held in Qatar. "That's just plain wrong", Manchin stated in a press release.
The total prize money for the 2022 men's World Cup will be $440 million, while the 2019 women's World Cup doled out $30 million in prize money, including $4 million to the winning team.
Arguably the most powerful moment in Sunday's 2-0 final victory over the Netherlands came after the final whistle when a chant of "equal pay" could be heard ringing around the State de Lyon.
