This was Catherine's second engagement following her return to work, having taken taking maternity leave after the birth of the couple's third child, Prince Louis, in April.

Today's inaugural summit aligns with the couple's Heads Together charity and their targeted focus on mental health awareness, and is being co-hosted by the British government and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and they watched two presentations on successful mental health programmes in the USA and Slovenia.

The event was attended by political figures, experts and policy makers who proceeded to discuss issues such as how to deal with the stigma attached to mental health - a subject very close to the royal's heart.

'You are allowed to go anywhere, ' encouraged Kate, who was wearing a £1,500 bespoke lavender Emilia Wickstead dress - previously seen on the couple's 2017 tour to Germany - with £510 Gianvito Rossi nude heels.

The duke and duchess, along with Prince Harry, have made mental health a cornerstone issue of their public work.

They also heard presentations on two case studies of active mental health programmes from Slovenia and the U.S. and visited an exhibition area.

During the event, William aimed a good-natured ribbing at his wife after Middleton, who studied art history at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, added a brushstroke to artist Dairo Vargas' painting.

One in four Zimbabweans suffers from depression or anxiety.

The project's founder Dixon Chibanda said: "Bringing our Friendship Bench to London helps show leaders and campaigners how we can all empower communities to tackle the global gap between mental health problems and the treatments available".
