In the video, Kamal has appealed to PM Modi to do the justice to the people of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the Cauvery issue. He added that "people are more important than elections".
"I am very sure you are aware of the crisis that is gripping Tamil Nadu and the ongoing agitations for the Cauvery water", Haasan said referring to the hunger strikes, marches, and shutdown call demanding the formation of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).
"All sections of people of Tamil Nadu have started to believe that this delay is due to ensuing elections in Karnataka and your party's interest in it. Sir, it is your duty as the Prime Minister of our country to prove this wrong by immediately acting as per the Supreme Court order", read Kamal's letter. I want this belief to be dispelled. Thank you, sir. Please do justice for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and see to that the Supreme Court judgement is followed.
The Cauvery, which flows through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, is the third largest river - after Godavari and Krishna - in south india and is considered the lifeline of Tamil Nadu and Southern Karnataka. Earlier today, opposition parties held a black flag protest against the Prime Minister's visit to the city without constituting the CMB.
He concluded his message by stating that he is sure that the PM will do the needful.
