Justin Turner leads the Dodgers to a game one win

Taijuan Walker will start Arizona's NL Division Series opener against the Dodgers after the craziness of the Diamondbacks' wild-card game depleted their pitching staff.

The Diamondbacks meanwhile had to get here via the Wild Card game, which ensures they will give away home field advantage for as long as they remain in the postseason. But when Greinke failed to get through four innings, Ray was forced into service and pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up two hits and one run. We're parsing a small sample to begin with, but dig a bit deeper, and you'll find that in his three starts this year as a member of the Diamondbacks, he went 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings. The action continues with Game 2 of the NLDS on Saturday, Oct. 7. However, he had success against the Dodgers this season, going 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA in three starts against Los Angeles. Pitchers will take solo shots any day of the week especially if they have big leads as Kershaw did.

"My arm feels great and ready to go", Ray said.

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo produced RBI singles in the sixth inning for the first two hits off an otherwise-dominant Strasburg.

Now they have Ray going in Game 2 on more-or-less regular rest.

Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts certainly enjoyed it, impressed by Turner's ability to slow the game down in high pressure situations. Ray had to come on in relief after ace Zack Greinke couldn't get through four innings against the Rockies. Chris Taylor singled and Corey Sager walked before Turner's home run.

"Forty-eight pitches (in) one inning is a lot for any pitcher to absorb", Lovullo said. But when Ketel Marte and Jeff Mathis hit back-to-back homers with one out in the seventh, cutting the Dodgers' lead to 7-4, Kershaw was finished for the night.

NOTES: Despite having 59 career postseason games under his belt, Dodgers 2B Chase Utley was not in the starting lineup, INF Logan Forsythe, on getting the nod despite never having played in a postseason game. Kenley gave up an unearned run, which led the game culminating in a 9-5 Dodger victory.

If the Dodgers could have chosen one team to avoid in the postseason it probably would have been the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Turner now shares the Dodgers record for RBIs in a postseason game with Pedro Guerrero, who had five in the 1981 World Series, and Davey Lopes, who did it in the 1978 World Series.
