Jose Antonio Reyes dies in vehicle crash aged 35

Jose Antonio Reyes: Former Arsenal winger dies aged 35

The accident happened at 11.45am as Reyes and his pals were returning from a training session at his club Extremadura, to his home in his native Utrera near Seville.

He won the trophy three times with Sevilla and it was his boyhood club who confirmed his death in a auto accident, aged 35, on Saturday.

Former Arsenal and Spain star Jose Antonio Reyes has died aged 35.

And his longtime former team, Sevilla, expressed their condolences as well, tweeting "we couldn't offer worse news". Our beloved squad member José Antonio Reyes died in a traffic accident. We'll always remember you, friend!

Reyes' former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry also said he was "devastated" by the news.

Reyes enjoyed a loan stint at Real Madrid in 2006 before joining city rivals Atletico a year later.

Here are the best moments of his career as the tragic news was confirmed. "Rest in peace Jose Antonio Reyes.what a left wing you and Antonio are going to form up there in heaven". "He will remain forever in our hearts".

The Monaco and Spain midfielder, who joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old 2003, also said Reyes was a "humble guy who always had a smile on his face, a great footballer and a phenomenal person".

"I will never forget your magic and your smile Jose, never".

He featured briefly for Espanyol before playing for Cordoba, Chinese side Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard and Extremadura, where he was still playing before tragically passing.

Reyes, who won 21 caps for Spain, was signed for Spanish lower-league club Extremadura at the time of his death. I wish his family and friends continued strength and courage to get through this hard time.

Reyes started the 2010 Europa League final victory over Fulham in Hamburg as well as the UEFA Super Cup triumph over Inter later that year, scoring the first in a 2-0 win.
