Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, died Wednesday in Los Angeles at the age of 89, after a long fight against cancer.

The Jackson family patriarch reportedly died today, and his loved ones were by his side for their final goodbyes.

Still, his grandson, Taj Jackson, a member of R&B group 3T, wrote on Twitter that he's "disgusted by some of the comments I'm reading about my grandpa Joe by those who didn't even know him".

"I will always love you!", she wrote.

Sources close to the Jackson family patriarch stated he was getting weaker as days progressed and were preparing for a farewell.

A tweet from Joe Jackson's official Twitter account caused more speculation about his health. "The sun rises when the time comes and whether you like it or not the sun sets when the time comes".

The Jackson family was often riven by legal battles, jealousies, money disputes, Joe's philandering and unproven allegations of child molestation against Michael.

Randy Jackson Jr. tweeted an old black-and-white photo of his grandfather standing next to a framed copy of Michael's 1979 album, Off the Wall.

Jackson helped engineer the careers of the Jackson 5, and the solo careers of his son Michael and daughter Janet.

Jackson was honored with a Brenden Celebrity Star on October 27, 2009, at the Las Vegas premiere of the Michael Jackson documentary, "This is It".

By the time they were adults, most of the Jackson siblings had dismissed him as their manager; Michael and Joseph's relationship was famously fractured; Michael Jackson revered his mother, Katherine, but kept his distance from Joseph.

Son Jackie Jackson corroborated this, saying in the book The Jacksons: Legacy: " Gary wasn't the safest place to live.

In a career spanning decades, The Jackson 5 sold approximately 75 million records worldwide and were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.

"Michael was the type of kid, you know, he was a good kid. and by him being that way, he was able to be Michael Jackson", he also recalled.

Previous year he said he was "truly sorry" for the way he treated them.

Jackson and wife Katherine married in 1949 and had 10 children - one of whom died shortly after birth - but lived apart in later years. Offering prayers and condolences to theJackson family. He was the first manager of the Jackson Family and late the Jackson Five and was instrumental in his children's stardom. By 1969, they had signed to Motown, when their bubble gum soul-pop hybrid would create Beatle-like mania, with hits including "I Want You Back", "ABC" and "I'll Be There".
