Jimmy Butler was in the building for the Minnesota Timberwolves' practice session today - and he reportedly "left teammates and coaches largely speechless" as he dominated the gym in every way. Part of the reason for Butler's frustration in Minnesota stemmed from the perceived "nonchalant" attitudes of young stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, which seemingly came up again Wednesday in the practice.
"You can't win without me", Butler reportedly yelled at general manager Scott Layden at one point.
Butler participated in drills and scrimmaged with Timberwolves, sources said.
Butler was not made available to speak to the media after practice.
A couple of Butler's teammates were particularly vague when asked about Butler's level of participation in practice on Wednesday.
Tolliver said he's never been through a situation quite like this with a team.
Towns then gathered the players in a huddle and gave a message centered on everyone keeping their emotions in check, league sources said.
"I think we had a good practice", Teague said, "but we've got some ways to go".
Minnesota and Miami advanced to the brink of a blockbuster trade for Butler over the weekend - only for the deal to fracture before completion, sources said. Owner Glen Taylor reportedly has told the team to trade him, but Thibodeau, who's also the president of basketball operations, has resisted and wants to persuade Butler to stay for the final year of his deal.
Minnesota had shared Butler's medical information with Miami late last week, sources said, a typical last step before finalizing a trade.
