Virat Kohli will miss the three-match Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka starting on December 20, to help the captain prepare for the tour of South Africa.

Hardik Pandya is the only genuine all-rounder while Parthiv Patel, after his gutsy show against England a year ago, booked his tickets for South Africa. Considering his Ranji Trophy performances past year, where he bowled brilliantly the whole season.

"Definitely, this is the best balanced sides that has gone to South Africa", chairman of selectors MSK Prasad said when asked if this was the easiest selection meeting.

It was earlier reported that following Kohli's concerns about lack of preparation time, a decision will be taken whether some of the Test specialists could be sent to South Africa early to acclimatise with the conditions.

"I really feel unfortunate for Kuldeep Yadav. But he is a fine bowler and over a period of time, we would see him grow", the former Andhra stumper said. Wriddhiman Saha will travel as the first-choice wicketkeeper with Parthiv as back-up.

The squad features three uncapped players in Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda and Basil Thampi.
