Rory McIlroy, defending champion Jason Day, Open champion Henrik Stenson and Olympic gold medalist Justin Rose are among a host of star names at Bay Hill in a week that will feature a number of tributes to Palmer.

Swede Stenson could also be one to watch as he finished inside the top 10 at last week's Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida, and has been in the top eight at Bay Hill every year since 2013.

Australian Day returns after his wire-to-wire win in Orlando previous year when tournament host Palmer watched on as he clinched a one-stroke victory by getting up-and-down from a greenside bunker at the final hole.

Day relayed a story about the King, which happened not long after his victory but before he fulfilled his media obligations. "Not ideal but felt it worse to take a spot from the first reserve if I wasn't able to finish".

'Mr Palmer sent us a letter saying he had watched and how spectacular an event it was and then went into saying he hopes my wife and son Zach (born just before the Masters) are all well.

It is not how packed your church is on Christmas Eve that counts, but how many come back on Jan 5.
