Is Richie Sambora returning to Bon Jovi? Depends on who you ask.

They were inducted during a ceremony last night (April 14) in Cleveland, joining a class that included the Moody Blues, the Cars, Dire Straits, Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Wow, what a beginning.

Gov. Phil Murphy made the declaration Saturday, hours before the platinum-selling New Jersey band was to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Cleveland. I've known them since they started", said Stern, joking that in 1987 he "was on a date with Richie Sambora. Hill earned a standing ovation from the audience. "Some days I write the thank you speech, other days, I write the fuck-you speech".

Bon Jovi will be inducted along with Dire Straits, the Moody Blues, Nina Simone and others.

"He was my first and only choice to induct us tonight", said Bon Jovi after a heartfelt speech accepting the honor. Fans also were able to vote on the Rock Hall's website. He literally recounted the band's biography, seemingly straight from the group's Wikipedia page. Later in the night, they would see the original members of Bon Jovi perform hits like "It's My Life" and "Livin' On A Prayer". That left Dire Straits' keyboardist Alan Clark, bassist John Illsley and keyboardist Guy Fletcher to deliver induction speeches without a presenter or a performance.

"I've been writing this speech since I first strummed a broom and sang at the top of the stairs of my childhood home", he said. This was most glaring with the absence of bonafide front man Mark Knopfler, who hasn't uttered a word about the ceremony, either in regards to formally say nah or to provide some context for his snub. "It was a pleasure to go on this journey with him". But while he was excited about the Rock Hall honors, Ocasek downplayed the chance for a future Cars album without Benjamin Orr. Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard talked about her recent tour. The Cars, founded in Boston in 1976, combined New Wave and classic rock sounds. Ric Ocasek, the singer of The Cars, discussed some of his early Cleveland shows. "It's quite unusual to be here without him", Ocasek said in reference to Orr. "He was in every band I ever had".

Steven Van Zandt came out next. He proceeded to trash Rolling Stone magazine publisher Jann Wenner, whom he said worked behind-the-scenes to ensure Bon Jovi wouldn't be inducted into the Rock Hall. R&B superstar Mary J. Blige welcomed Simone into the Rock Hall, and R&B singer Andra Day performed in her honor. "She knew who she was, and she was confident", Blige said. "All of those things meant a lot to me".

HBO will air a special with highlights from the Rock Hall induction at 8 p.m. ET on May 5. It could be a "Champagne Supernova" kind of evening.
