IPL 10 Match Preview: Gujarat Lions V/s Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians kept their nerve in the Super Over to defeat James Faulkner's Gujarat Lions for their seventh win in the Indian Premier League. "I have played some close games like this in domestic cricket but this is the best win so far.It was a total team effort". While the two teams exchanged warm handshakes, nearly in appreciation for bringing the best out of each other in an absolutely thrilling contest, Jasprit Bumrah was being sworn in as perhaps the best death bowlers in limited-overs cricket.

Parthiv Patel played a blistering knock of 44-ball 70 runs to give Mumbai a good start at the top. Any batsman would have found it really tough to hit a six or a boundary off those yourkers. Gujarat Lions batted first and scored 153-9 in 20 overs with Ishan Kishan topped the team with a score of 48 in 35 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja's two stunning run outs, Irfan Pathan's direct hit and Basil Thampi's two wickets in the 19th over had put MI's celebrations on hold as the scores were tied.

From the ridiculous to the sublime in more ways than one the Mumbai Indians won a super over shootout with the Gujarat Lions by five runs. But the visitors weren't allowed to add any more runs as the wily Australian left-arm medium-pacer removed Pollard and Buttler in the next two balls to end the innings.

"This was the first time, when I was bowling super over, there is always pressure, because you have to defend only 11 runs, but at that time you only keep a calm head and not to focus on negative things".

Kieron Pollard looked promising during his brief stay in the middle, but poor timing while attempting to smash a Thampi delivery into the stands did him in as he could only manage to pick out McCullum at the long-on boundary.

Gujarat Lions team is blessed with some players including, Andrew Tye, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum. The Lions will be hoping that their skipper Suresh Raina is fully fit.

Having slumped to 143-8, Mumbai needed 11 runs to win off the final over and they began in a spectacular manner as Krunal Pandya managed to hit a six off the first delivery of the over which was bowled by Irfan Pathan.

Speaking of the over, Bumrah said: "I don't practice keeping a shoe like Malinga does but I practice with him. I was making sure that I stretch the game till the 20 over and I see how it goes". He is known for his death bowling and he can bowl yorkers day in (and) day out. In the ninth over, the Lions suffered another blow when Dinesh Karthik was deceived in the air to be stumped by Parthiv Patel. Krunal had regained strike, and punched the next slower ball through the vacant third man region for a couple.
