There has been plenty of criticism from the outside over the Packers spotty play halfway through the 2016 season but after the Indianapolis Colts rolled over the Pack at Lambeau 31-26 Sunday on a record 68 degree warm day for November 6, two critics were heard from the inside.
"I'm not going to sit here and lie to you we should have played much better and done a lot of things better and we didn't", Daniels said.
"They did a great job and they are getting better every day", Gore said of the trench play after Sunday's victory in Lambeau.
That's not far from the truth.
And if that happens, coach Mike McCarthy may not get a chance to extend his run in Green Bay to 12 seasons. The running game sputtered without Eddie Lacy once again, and Jeff Janis had a perfectly thrown 50-yard pass clank off his helmet on what should have been an easy reception.
Rodgers' 3-yard touchdown pass to Randall Cobb with 3:29 left got Green Bay (4-4) within five, capping a 14-point spurt in four-plus minutes.
It was an eerily similar scenario to the one the Colts faced about a month ago in Houston. Not a single team in the division even has a two game win streak. The Colts Bye Week comes at a crucial time (which proves their decision not to take it after London correct) and this offense will likely be back at full strength in time for the final stretch of the season. But he later admitted thoughts of earlier missed opportunities still were on his mind. "As an offense, you want to fix that".
Panthers 13, Rams 10: Cam Newton persevered through five sacks to pass for 225 yards and a touchdown, and Carolina's defense shut down Los Angeles for a road win.
On third-and-10 from their own 25, the Colts were playing with fire. You kind of felt it over the whole sideline. "You kinda have a sense for it". "We've got to find a way to right it, come in (Monday) clean it up, and keep working at it and getting better". Ty Montgomery actually ran the ball well (seven carries for 53 yards), yet McCarthy didn't run the ball and he and Rodgers didn't throw it short. The loss of Quan Bray looms large and it is very possible he'll be out for the rest of the year (he's eligible to return in Week 15) but there hasn't been any update on his status.
The drive was a huge one to close out the first half, and it kept with Chuck Pagano's emphasis on ending both halves strong.
The Colts led 14-10 after an eventful first quarter, kick-started by Indianapolis' Jordan Todman going untouched on a 99-yard return of the opening kickoff.
Luck admitted the Colts needed a win in the worst way. "We had to. Especially with how the first half of the season went when we gave away games".
"After really reviewing the video, I actually thought the energy was pretty good", McCarthy said.
And on 1st and goal from the eight yard line, Luck took the snap and got off a quick back-shoulder pass to the left to Donte Moncrief at the pylon, and his receiver made a terrific adjustment on the ball to bring it down for the score.
Rodgers, who went 26-43 for 297 yards with three touchdowns and one interception against the Colts, even referenced a squirrel that come on the field.
Hilton led the Colts with six catches for 82 yards, and Gore finished with 19 carries for 60 yards and two scores.
