Idris Elba is close to finally winning the role of James Bond
Aug 11 2018
The Independent say that producers are "leaning toward" the English actor for the role of James Bond when Daniel Craig vacates it - which will be after the next Danny Boyle-directed outing. The sort of thing that, good or awful, will seem to symbolise an era.
Elba's name has always been tossed around as an ideal candidate. "LETS GO." - while television and film producer Robert Schooley tweeted that Elba is a natural choice for Bond: "Of course Idris Elba should be James Bond, do we even need to pretend there's a question here?"
Twitter user @wordtoJude felt this news was a long time coming - "IVE BEEN ASKING FOR THIS FOR YEARS".
Elba has previously been mentioned as a possible 007, and was said to have been the favourite of then Sony chief Amy Pascal according to leaked documents from the Sony hack back in 2014. In a story from the United Kingdom -based tabloid Daily Star, it was stated that Equalizer 2 director Antoine Fuqua told "an industry pal" about a conversation he'd had with longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli. The duo has written on every Bond film from the last 19 years ranging from The World is not Enough all the way up to 2015's Spectre, however, the studio opted for Hodge's script over the former's.
There is no denying that Idris Elba isn't a brilliant actor and an incredible screen presence, and has all the tools to make an excellent James Bond.
The Luther star has made the point himself, and shrugged off rumours in 2016, commenting: "I think I'm too old for that man, running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that?" "Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male?" he said. "It could be a woman - could be a black woman, could be a white woman - but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have...do something different with it, why not?"
