From his orbiting perch, Gerst offered Earthlings yet another warning about the hurricane's dangers: "Get prepared on the East Coast, this is a no-kidding nightmare coming for you". That also means that colossal weather systems like Hurricane Florence are easy to observe as the spacecraft cruises along.
"The crew of @Space_Station is thinking of those who will be affected", Arnold said in a tweet. For the Carolinas, the NHC predicts a "life-threatening storm surge and rainfall". Since reliable record-keeping began more than 150 years ago, North Carolina has only been hit by one Category 4 hurricane: Hazel, with 210 km/h winds in 1954.

National Aeronautics and space administration (NASA) revealed the extent of hurricane Florence, which is close to the coast of the United States. "It's chilling, even from space", Gerst tweeted earlier today.
