New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman injured his pitching hand in a postgame celebration at Target Field following the division series sweep of the Minnesota Twins on Monday night. The staff ace for the Rays had been outstanding all season, but was unable to play in the first two games of the series because he started the Wild Card game against the A's. Saturday's loss contributed to the Twins' growing record of holding the MLB's longest active postseason losing streak in baseball, having dropped 15 consecutive games.

Boosted by an age-defiant performance by their 22-year-old star second baseman, the Yankees moved one step closer to that elusive trophy.

He will certainly mix in his slider and changeup against a team that hits fastballs so well, but his fastball is no question his best pitch, and he won't shy away from his strength just because it also happens to be a strength of the team he's facing.

Because he was traveling from Minneapolis to NY on Tuesday, Yankees GM Brian Cashman didn't provide updates on Aroldis Chapman's left hand/wrist and Zack Britton's right ankle.

With Morton on the mound, and returning home for the first playoff game at Tropicana Field in six years, the Rays were confident they would find a way to get back into the series against Greinke, an 18-game victor who was 8-1 with a 3.02 in 10 starts after being acquired from Arizona at the trade deadline.

Already leading 3-0, Didi Gregorius came to the plate with the bases loaded. Minny's relievers have surrendered 11 earned runs in 10 innings (9.90 ERA). Here are three things to expect from him against the Minnesota Twins. The ball barely cleared the dark green wall in left-center.

Including the playoffs, Gregorius has 30 RBIs in 13 games vs. the Twins since the start of 2018. Houston got two hits each from Jose Altuve (run, RBI), Yordan Alvarez (run) and Yuli Guerriel (two RBI) in the contest.

"I wanted to make sure we got through tonight", he said.

The Yankees extended their lead to 2-0 in the third when Gio Urshela led off with a double and scored two outs later on Gardner's single. Ji-Man Choi finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run plus a walk.

The Yankees were impeccable in the field. The shortstop added a diving catch of Jorge Polanco's ninth-inning line drive for good measure.

Houston leads the best-of-five series 2-1 after a 6-2 victory over Tampa Bay in Game 1 on Friday and a 3-1 victory in Game 2 on Saturday.

Britton faced 67 left-handed batters in the regular season without allowing a home run. Tanaka has a 1.54 ERA with 32 strikeouts and eight walks in six October starts.

The Twins struck out 14 times and went one-for-seven with runners in scoring position.

"How he handles pressure, I think he eats it up", Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Judge. The only other time this year he did so in three straight games was from September 6-8. "It's OK to acknowledge that, and we'll be back".

"We're focused already to the second series", Torres said. "So kind of have that luxury of rolling them out in some similar spots".

Before the matchup, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli complimented Dobnak's determination. Instead, he became the first Houston pitcher to give up three home runs in a playoff game.
