House votes to restrain Trump on war with Iran

CNN dispatched a tweet Thursday with the congresswoman's response to whether or not she thinks Pelosi "has racial animus or is racist".

Friday's final vote, 220-197, was a crucial victory for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., after liberal Democrats revolted late last month over being forced to accept a Senate-negotiated border spending bill that omitted their key demands. "It has no place in a civil discussion", said Clay, who was specifically referencing remarks made by Rep. Rashida Tlaib as well as by Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, suggesting that they were being singled out by Pelosi for their race and gender.

The measure, which would require Trump to first receive Congressional approval before launching strikes against Iran, passed on July 12 in the Democratic-controlled lower house by a vote of 251-170.

"All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world, but they didn't have any following".

Democrat Ro Khanna, who led the amendment, said the measure showed that the United States was fed up with war, according to AFP.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, accused Democrats of using their border trip to put on "a show in front of fences and the media" and of "vilifying" border agents for a problem they've not caused. "For them to call her a racist is a disgrace", added Trump. "In a now-deleted tweet, Chakrabarti compared centrist Democrats to old, racist, southern Democrats". "I don't think most of us are". "You make me the target, but don't make our [moderates] the target in all of this, because we have important fish to fry".

As someone who spent years pleading with Republican leaders to stand up to their unhinged backbenchers (the Freedom Caucus), I would say that while the Democratic leadership and its moderates could and should have done this earlier, it's a relief to see them insist that the squad get a grip - and at the very least refrain from calling fellow members, including African Americans and Hispanics, racists. And you know what, I don't think that Nancy can let that go on.

Democrats don't want to alienate or insult their most progressive members, but neither should they feel compelled to chase after the support of the far-left wing at the expense of every other member and the party as a whole.

Ocasio-Cortez repeated statements she released immediately after the visit to the El Paso facility, that she saw women drinking water from toilets.

Senator Tom Udall, one of the sponsors of the Senate measure on Iran, said the Senate had sent a "clear message" to Trump, even though the measure was blocked. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of MA and Rashida Tlaib of MI. Pelosi's hold on her speakership runs through districts like Davids', and Republicans will fight hard to win back those seats in 2020.

"You got a complaint?"

"This is the time to shake that table. we don't need any more brown faces that don't want to be a brown voice", Pressley said, seemingly taking a stab at the Congressional Black Caucus, which is allied with Pelosi.

Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez have appeared at previous Netroots conferences, but neither attended this year.
