Singer Halle Bailey is part of Atlanta-based sister duo Chloe x Halle who received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist last year

It's time to go under the sea with an all-new Ariel.

The wait is finally over, Disney has found their Ariel for the studios upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

The decision was made today, with the budding actress notified later Wednesday morning.

With all eyes on The Lion King's imminent release in cinemas, it's clear that Disney's policy of making live-action versions of their most beloved cartoons is showing no signs of slowing down.

Director Rob Marshall released a statement regarding the casting of Bailey.

Jacob Tremblay will play Flounder, Ariel's best friend who is a fish, while Awkwafina will play Scuttle, the seagull friend of the princess. The film will feature songs from the animated classic by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken (music) and Miranda (lyrics).

Production for the Little Mermaid is anticipated to begin in early 2020. Miranda and Marshall also worked together on Mary Poppins Returns.

Bailey and her sister, Chloe, also both star in the Freeform series Grown-ish in addition to their musical career - which was kick-started when Beyonce saw their cover of her song, "Pretty Hurts", and asked them to open for the European leg of her Formation World Tour. She can now be seen as a regular on Freeform's Grown-ish series, in which she plays Sky who, along with her twin sister Jazz (played by real-life sister Chloe), is on the track team at the college.

In February, Chloe x Halle sang "America the Beautiful" at Super Bowl LIII.
