Groenen grabs extra-time victor as Netherlands book World Cup final berth

Women’s World Cup on TV: Sweden and Netherlands vie for spot in final

In a back-and-forth game that saw each goalkeeper make impressive saves, Jackie Groenen scored with a brilliant right-footed shot in the 99th minute for the game's lone goal.

This year's tournament marks the Netherlands' first appearance in both the Women's World Cup semifinal and the final.

The Netherlands are playing in just their second World Cup and are now through to their first ever semifinal.

The victor will face the U.S. in the 2019 Women's World Cup final on Sunday, July 7 at 11 a.m. ET, with each seeking its first title.

That was a game which had it all, and it was always going to be hard for this second semi-final to reach the same heights.

Then again, that was not the best save in the second half, with Sweden's Lindahl displaying stunning athleticism to tip a Vivianne Miedema header onto the bar soon after.

Netherlands' Jackie Groenen (R) is congratulated by Shanice Van De Sanden after her victor.

Netherlands remained ideal in the 2019 Women's World Cup with a 2-0 win over Italy in the quarterfinals.

The Swedes will have to settle for bronze if they can beat England on Saturday in Nice.
