Pulitzer victor, Kendrick Lamar, on Friday, led the pack of nominated artistes in 2019 Grammy Awards.

Kendrick Lamar leads the way in next year's Grammy nominations with nods in eight categories.

The 2019 Grammy Award nominees were announced on Friday, with some of music's biggest names at the top of the list. Five of the eight album of the year nominees are women, including Cardi B, Kacey Musgraves, Janelle Monae, H.E.R. and Carlile. The pride of Pickering, Ont., Mendes also has a chance for song of the year, for In My Blood.

Six songs are up for both record and song of the year: Lamar and SZA's All the Stars; Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's Shallow, from the A Star Is Born soundtrack; Childish Gambino's This Is America; Drake's God's Plan; Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey's The Middle; and Carlile's The Joke.

Cardi B is up for Album of the Year for Invasion Of Privacy plus Record of the Year for "I Like It".

Following Lamar, Drake - the year's most successful artist - earned seven nominations. Rock band Greta Van Fleet and country singer Luke Combs also earned nominations.

After last year's show sparked a major backlash, the Recording Academy created a diversity task force responding to criticism that the show was consistently too male and too white, and ultimately expanded four of the top categories from five nominees to eight.

"Each of this year's nominees is deserving of this honour and I look forward to the announcement of the victor in the new year", Grange said. Some people believe that he isn't talented and simply just says his songs, while others think his music is only for his Canadian supporters who would love him no matter what.

"The Album, Music From and Inspired By" is up for Album of the Year".

Rapper Kanye West has received 69 Grammys nominations to-date, some of which were in coveted categories such as Album Of The Year and Song Of The Year. Beyoncé had to make do with just three, all of which she shared with husband Jay-Z - music video "Apes-t", R&B performance "Summer" and urban contemporary album Everything is Love.

Brandon, Man. -raised violinist James Ehnes is nominated for classical instrumental solo for his concerto Kernis, while Toronto-born conductor Peter Oundjian also received a nod for classical compendium.

Ten-time Grammy victor Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello were among the biggest snubs in top categories that were dominated by hip-hop and R&B.
