According to the Associated Press, Clooney was released from the John Paul II hospital, according to officials and wife Amal had rushed to her husband's side.

George was riding Tuesday morning on the Italian island of Sardinia when the auto turned in front of him and reportedly hit him.

The 57-year-old actor was traveling along a road in Costa Corallina, in the province of Olbia-Tempio in Sardinia, when the incident occurred, reported TGCOM24.

A representative for the actor confirmed his well-being to Just Jared , saying in a statement: "George Clooney was treated and released from an Olbia hospital".

A picture from La Nuova shows a smashed windscreen, which suggests George hit it during the crash, but despite this, his condition is not thought to be serious.

"The moped hit the auto and Clooney sprawled across the bonnet of the vehicle, colliding with the windscreen, which cracked".

Clooney broke a rib in a motorcycle accident in New Jersey in 2008, while his then-girlfriend Sarah Larson suffered a broken foot.

Clooney will star in and co-direct the limited series, which began filming in May.

The car's driver reportedly assisted Clooney after the accident.

Italian media report the accident happened in Sardinia where the United States actor is filming his latest TV series, Catch-22.

He has been living there for the summer in order to work on the series Catch 22.
