Previously, former President Jimmy Carter also met his North Korean counterpart, Kim Il Sung - the grandfather of Kim Jong Un.

Her guest, former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, appeared not to notice the mistake and kept talking.

"This is history we are living", Huntsman said.

Huntsman eventually owned up to her gaffe later on, however, stating that her dubbing both Trump and Kim as dictators was just an honest mistake.

The two men are expected to share a handshake before they meet alone with a pair of interpreters for roughly 45 minutes while their entourages wait nearby.

Fox & Friends co-host Abby Huntsman made the comment on Sunday as TV footage showed the USA president landing in Singapore for a summit with Kim on Tuesday.

A Fox News anchor accidentally referred to Donald Trump as a "dictator" on Sunday.

Later, Hunstman said that sometimes on live TV, she doesn't say things perfectly.

"I'll never claim to be a ideal human being", she wrote.

She wrote: 'Apologized on the show.

After the apology, many people rallied to Huntsman's defense on social media.

President Trump is a close follower of the show, and regularly tweets about it. "You are always professional & do a great job".

Another person chimed in, writing, "We wouldn't be human if we were 'perfect'".

Seemingly sensing Hunstman's slip, Scaramucci opted to brush the comment aside, opting instead to give the US president some praise.

"This is history", Huntsman said.
