Former Liverpool defender showers praise on Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool news Philippe Coutinho Barcelona

Those Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona rumours are resurfacing.

Coutinho has started the last three league games for Liverpool after missing the start of the season with a back injury.

However, Barcelona have already begun a charm offensive and Liverpool noted the words of chief executive Oscar Grau on Tuesday who said the club were "ready" to buy the Brazilian.

He said: "We are ready to buy Coutinho in the winter market or any player the technical staff request".

From Barcelona's point of view, the Brazilian will be cup-tied in the Champions League, which means there will be little value in signing a player they can not feature in their most important competition. Liverpool's position has not changed and they are furious about Grau's comments.

It's hardly surprising that Barcelona's interest in Coutinho hasn't wavered.

"I don't think it's going to happen in January, I don't think they've got intention of making it in January", Balague told Sky Sports, per the Express.

Liverpool were forced to email Barcelona over the summer to ask them to stop their public courtship of the player and reports in Thursday's papers claim the Reds have been angered once again by Barcelona's latest attempts to distract the player.

However, the 25-year-old playmaker tried to force a move to Barcelona during the summer with the La Liga giants submitting multiple offers for the Brazil worldwide.

At this stage of the season, the hope will be that Coutinho ignores Barcelona's advances and continues to focus on his form at Anfield.

But Coutinho has shown in recent weeks just why Liverpool are desperate to keep hold of him, scoring against Leicester City, Spartak Moscow and Newcastle United.
