His nightly monologues have included pointed barbs directed at President Donald Trump.

Last week, Colbert went to visit the country, appearing on a Russian TV show where he jokingly announced he would for President of the United States in 2020.

After returning from a trip to Russian Federation on assignment for some future Late Show pieces, Colbert said he was certainly not alone while overseas: "You know who did know I was in Russian Federation?"

Being back in the US was a relief for Colbert, considering the attention he received overseas. "Russian intelligence", he said. He joked about not being alone while overseas, saying, "You know who did know I was in Russian Federation?"

He continued: "Also got some attention from American intelligence".

"But it's important to keep an eye on a comedian who's in Russian Federation doing jokes".

"I'm just exhausted of Trump", she said on a panel about her show on May 16.

"Oh wait, someone's already got that covered", he added to audience guffaws.

- "That's me in front of St. Petersburg Winter Palace".

Fallon told the paper in the same interview that he would not attempt to inject more political humor into his show just to satisfy critics: "Just because some people bash me on Twitter, it's not going to change my humor or my show", he vowed.

"To be clear, all I said in the clip there is that I was considering a run", he said. If I made a decision to run, obviously I'm not going to ask the Russians to help my campaign. "If I let anyone down, it hurt my feelings that they didn't like it".

- "Like President Trump, I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of any other tapes of what I did in Russian Federation".
