A brand new trailer for director Ava DuVernay's dazzling adaptation of the beloved novel premiered on Saturday during the live-action film panel at D23, Disney's biennial fan expo in Anaheim, California.
A Wrinkle In Time, first published in 1963, sees a young girl (Reid) travel with her brother and a friend into space in search of her recently-disappeared scientist father (Pine). There, they cross paths with a number of fantastical characters and creatures, including a trio of "chimerical celestial beings" who help Meg on her journey, which we met earlier this week in a set of first-look images. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsit (played by Kaling, Winfrey, and Witherspoon, respectively).
From the adorable on-set photos to the attractive stills in Entertainment Weekly, DuVernay already had me ridiculously excited for this film - and the sweeping, strange, colorful trailer met all my expectations.
In August 2016, The LA Times reported that DuVernay is already breaking records with A Wrinkle in Time, for being the first woman of color to direct a movie with a budget over $100 million dollars.
"I saw myself in it", DuVernay says of the project. Oprah Winfrey stars as Mrs.
Now I want to plunge through a wrinkle in spacetime to get to August 18 of next year, when A Wrinkle in Time materializes in theaters, but that sort of thing hasn't made it past science fiction or exotic theories. Yet.
