Fiat Chrysler is recalling almost 500,000 Ram pickup trucks because their water pumps could be defective.

The company said Tuesday it determined that water-pump bearings installed in certain 2013 to 2017 Ram trucks are potentially defective. The recall is associated with the water pump, which could cause a fire under certain conditions. Of these, he said, "a smaller number involved damage", but the reports did not involve damage beyond "the immediate area of the water pump".

All but 50,705 of the affected Fiat Chrysler vehicles were sold in the USA market, with the remainder sold in Canada and other global markets, it said. No injuries or accidents were reported. Drivers may see a warning light if the water pump doesn't function correctly.

Customers are urged to contact dealers if any warning lights appear in the vehicle cluster.

Affected customers will be notified when service time is available. Dealerships will inspect the water pump and replace it, if needed. Ram is also preparing to launch its next-generation 1500 pickup that will debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit with a new high-tech interior.
