Facebook, WhatsApp down globally, users in a fix

Instagram outages spiked alongside its social media brethren Facebook and WhatsApp

At the moment, Instagram seems to be working fine, however, we noticed that new photos uploaded on Facebook are not showing at all on our mobile devices.

Facebook users have reported images are not loading.

Some people, however, said Instagram and Facebook are down entirely.

Downdetector's live outage map showed the issues were mainly in parts of Europe and the United States.

The first outage issues were reported shortly before 16:00 today.

Facebook took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to inform its users that the company is aware of the technical difficulties and is working on the issue.

DownDetector has also received reports of people being unable to load messages in Facebook Messenger. "We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible", a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business, on behalf of its other apps Instagram and WhatsApp. WhatsApp users saying some texts are sending or receiving. It's unclear what is causing them at this time. "Apologies for the inconvenience", the company said in a tweet posted from its support account at 11:57 a.m. The site shows that all four Facebook-owned apps are now experiencing issues.

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram also experienced one of its longest outages in March, when users had trouble accessing the sites for up to two days.
