Heck, at halftime the Bears even held a three-point lead. Still, the John Fox-led Bears looked more encouraging than discouraging. A seemingly crushing blow, but at least they had the Packers backed all the way up.
The Bears offense was moving pretty well.
It was the 23rd interception that Cutler's thrown in games against the Packers, but the talk in the Bears locker room after the game wasn't about the same old Cutler. Cutler, too, looks far from done. Although McCarthy said it's not uncommon for a defense to tackle poorly in a season-opening game, he quickly added that it was "no excuse" for such a poor showing. That play was Cutler's career in a nutshell.
And the way Jones played Sunday, it was as if he'd never left. The Packers have won nine of the last 10 against the Bears. Take those plays away and the Bears are celebrating a victory over the Super Bowl favorites. He broke open running lanes for Matt Forte, helping the running back accumulate 140 yards on the ground.
The Chicago Bears lost in Week 1 to the Green Bay Packers just like everyone thought they would, but the game was not the complete bloodbath many had expected. It was a dominant first half for Forte, who gained 105 rushing yards on 16 attempts, followed by three catches for 19 yards. "Definitely coming down to Chicago playing in this game is always a huge challenge". The defence was also minus three starters for most of the game. But on first down from the Green Bay 29, Packers linebacker Clay Matthews intercepted a Cutler pass, leading to the drive that ended with Lacy's touchdown.
Why those teams made a decision to let him go, no one will ever know. The guy is a matchup problem. He pushed through an injury and I'm really proud of him for doing that. Come on now! Vic Fangio has tried to mix and match players in the Bears locker room to fit his 3-4 defense. Signing Jones made all the sense in the world for the Packers, in part because he had an immediate comfort level with Rodgers and the offense.
Bears fans are used to Rodgers ruining their weekends, but James Jones? The one thing that was evident was the Bears secondary is a liability moving forward. Their ability to defend the deep ball is suspect.
The game went back and forth, as Green Bay drove downfield and got a field goal in the second quarter. As I was watching the game I saw a different mentality out of this team.
Green Bay will need all the help they can get next Sunday, September 20, when Marshawn Lynch and the defending NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks come to Lambeau Field for a prime time game on NBC. They stuck with it and played until the final whistle. But me and (Aaron Rodgers) the last few days have been talking and talking and talking and talking and talking and talking and talking about what he's looking for, where he needs me to be, and things like that.
