Euless Police Officer Shot at Local Park

Brown said officers responded to the park, which is south of Airport Freeway, after reports of gunfire and encountered the armed suspect, who opened fire on police, striking one officer.

The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. Tuesday at J.A. Carr Park in the 500 block of Simmons Drive.

The officer was shot after arriving at J.A. Carr Park. The officer and the suspect were transported to the hospital.

Brown didn't immediately release the names of the suspect or the officer, pending family notifications, KTXA-TV reported.

As a precaution, nearby Harmony Science Academy and Oakwood Terrace Elementary were placed on a lockdowns, which were lifted more than an hour after the incident.

The first and only other time a Euless officer died in the line of duty was when Officer Michael Williamson was hit by a drunk driver in 1982, according to the city's website.

This is a developing story.
