EPA defends Obama's handling of Flint water crisis

The contamination is believed to have been sparked by unelected emergency manager Darnell Earley's decision to switch the Flint river water supply from Detroit to the polluted Flint River in April 2014.
To improve water testing, the state says residents may drop off samples using official kits at five sites.
The water supply in Flint, Michigan is so contaminated with lead that it's spewing out of faucets in unnatural yellow and brown colors. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality said the city had not been "forced" to treat the water with corrosion controls, causing outdated lead connections to leech, The Detroit Newsreports.
In addition to declaring a federal state of emergency, President Barack Obama committed $5 million in immediate funding to counter the disaster's effects. This governor, Rick Snyder, nullified the democratic election of this mostly African-American city-where 41% of the people live below the official poverty line-and replaced the elected mayor and city council with a crony who was instructed to take all his orders from the governor's office. Last week, the governor activated the National Guard to help distribute bottled water and water filters in the city.
"It really is a scary situation to know that we can't get clean drinking water", said Sherri Miller, who brought her first-grade son, Jameer, to have a finger-prick blood sample tested.
"It's terrible to have the situation in Flint happen and I'm responsible as the governor of the state", Snyder told the Journal.
Flint's water crisis was also a topic of conversation during Sunday night's Democratic debate. During Sunday's presidential debate, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders blasted the Republican governor.
Flint residents have complained for some time about the odd odor and color of the water coming out of their taps, but apparently nothing has been done for as long as a year. We have now seen unfortunately what happens when there's not purity in the water.
In response, Snyder said Clinton, along with filmmaker Michael Moore, are among those "politicizing" the crisis for political gain.
Cher said she reached out to her friend Brad Horwitz, who is an investor in the water company Icelandic Glacial. "But, I suspect a lot of them will be focused on Flint and repairing the damage that's been done there".

Since the financially struggling city broke away from the Detroit water system past year, residents have been unhappy with the smell, taste and appearance of water from the citys river as they await the completion of a pipe to Lake Huron.
