Eid in KP tomorrow, announces provincial government

The new moon marks the end of the 29 days of Ramadan fast for Muslims.

As at sunset, the following African countries had announced June 4 as Eid Day - Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sierra Leone, the Republic of Congo, Egypt and other African countries that have traditionally relied on Saudi's announcement.

'Eid is truly a celebration and a time to be grateful for the life we live, our family and community, ' says Haroon Khan with Jamia Masjid, Vancouver's oldest mosque.

The minister said that the government received a number of testimonies for Shawwal moon sighting from the erstwhile Federal Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA).

"If the moon is not sighted (today), then Tuesday will mark a regular fasting day and Eid will be celebrated on Wednesday", Saudi Royal Court said.

Eid Al Fitr celebrations begin with Eid prayers at fajr, or dawn, and involve prayers performed in a group and specific particular rituals and a sermon. In most Muslim countries, the three days of Eid are observed as public and school holidays. They spend the day visiting relatives and neighbours and accepting candies as they move around from house to house.

An official Eid moon sighting announcement in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and other GCC states is expected by 07:30 pm local time.

Most Muslim-majority countries started the holy month of Ramadan this year on May 6.

In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, attempt to sight the Eid moon will be undertaken on Tuesday, June 4.

Typical greetings during the Eid holiday include "Eid Mubarak" which means "Blessed Eid" while another happens to be "Eid Said" which means "Happy Eid".
