East Baton Rouge sheriff's deputy shot and killed at barbershop during investigation

The deputy was responding to a domestic situation when he was shot.

The shooting happened at a business in a strip mall near the movie theater on O'Neal Lane at I-12.

A Louisiana sheriff's deputy was fatally shot late Saturday night while conducting an investigation, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police confirmed. The suspected gunman was wounded and taken to an area hospital for treatment. East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome was also at the scene, according to reports. Anderson also served in Uniform Patrol at Burbank, Scotlandville and most recently Kleinpeter substation. "During that investigation, shots were fired".

"It's a tragic night for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office", said Casey Hicks, the public information director for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Department. In March 2016 he was recognized for delivering a baby on the side of the road.

43-year-old Sgt. Shawn Thomas Anderson of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office died as a result of his injuries following the shooting.

State Police will handle the investigation going forward. One of our deputies has been shot and killed.
