E3 2018: Just Cause 4 Gameplay Trailer Introduces Extreme Weather, More
Jun 12 2018
With new trailers for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Dragon Quest XI, and a promising new intellectual property from Platinum Games called Babylon's Fall, Square Enix brought a little bit of hype to fans, but not almost as much as some other publishers did over the weekend. And of course one more fever dream of a trailer for the anime Disney crime Kingdom Hearts III finally confirmed its release next January. Despite the Luminary being on the receiving end of a monologue about how harsh their life has been so far - and then taking part in a battle against the undead - it's all quite strangely celebratory. Babylon's Fall, meanwhile, was only of interest because of PlatinumGames' name being attached to it. It's clear that Square Enix is bringing everything together for a big finale with Kingdom Hearts 3.
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider offered a first look at jungle combat, with what seems to be a stealth system very similar to the Predator sections in Batman: Arkham. Just Cause 4 is due to launch on December 4th.
The new trailer shows off some exciting new abilities and story elements for the game.
Annoyingly arrogantly presentation aside, this does showcase Square Enix's nearly schizophrenically varied output of upcoming games.
Not that we're complaining, as the sandbox destruction looked as fun as ever - especially with the new extreme weather effects and more versatile grapple hook. The publisher streamed the announcements directly to viewers in lieu of a stage show, which was a good call considering just how little new information there was to share relative to the press conferences of Microsoft, EA and Bethesda.
Other trailered games included Nier: Automata: Become As Gods, Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest XI, Under the Moonlight, Monster Hunter World and Stormblood.
What was disappointing though was that there was no mention at all of Square Enix's Avengers game, which a year ago they'd implied would be revealed at E3.
