At least three tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service in nearby Canton, with about 50 people being treated for related injuries at area hospitals, news outlets reported, citing hospital officials.
Oncor Electric was also reporting outages, almost 10,000 customers were affected in North Texas.
These patients all have injuries that are non-life threatening except the one critical.
Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett said in a phone interview late Saturday night that five people are dead.
There has reportedly been one dead and almost 50 injured after a tornado ripped through Texas Saturday night. NBC 5 Meteorologist David Finfrock said the Canton tornado was on the ground for 40 miles - long enough to hit Fruitvale and Emory.
Preliminary reports to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth indicated that as many as three tornadoes raked over parts of Henderson, Van Zandt and Rains counties in eastern Texas.

A large tornado hit the town of Canton, Texas, Saturday evening. The dispatcher said there was "a lot of damage" before hanging up. There are reports of injuries but no confirmation on how many or how serious at this point.
But video from local television stations showed uprooted trees and overturned cars along rural, wet roadways, along with at least two flattened homes.
"It hit so hard, so fast". A severe weather statement, issued at 7:13 p.m. said radar detected a thunderstorm moving to the northeast.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the Texas Task Force 2 had been dispatched to the area to aid in relief efforts.
