Disney have released the first moving poster of Emily Blunt as the practically flawless nanny for Mary Poppins Returns - a sequel to the much-loved 1964 classic.

Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel to the 1964 classic film Mary Poppins which was then helmed by Julie Andrews.

It opens as the Banks family are dealing with a tragedy which leaves Michael's three children Annabel, Georgie and John broken hearted.

The latest version also boasts a supporting cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, a street lamplighter who could well be an updated version of Dick van Dyke's "chim chimney" sweep from the 1964 original film, Meryl Streep as Poppins' cousin Topsy, who wasn't in the earlier film, Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks, and Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins.

The upcoming live-action adaptation of "The Lion King" just got a little more real.

Blunt says her Mary Poppins pays homage to what Julie Andrews did with the character but is her own version.

Speaking in Anaheim on Saturday at the biannual Disney fan expo, D23, DuVernay was joined on stage by her film's cast, including Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine and newcomer Storm Reid, who plays the film's lead, Meg. "I think children have really responded to that lack of sentimentality she has as well, that she's rude and eccentric and odd". "And we were very loyal to the books".

Taking to Twitter, Walt Disney Studios shared a video of Emily Blunt in character, captioning it: "Emily Blunt is Mary Poppins in the upcoming sequel, #MaryPoppinsReturns".

"As a kid, I found the idea that this magical mysterious person whisking into their lives and making everything right again really comforting", said Blunt.

None of the Mary Poppins Returns material presented at the D23 Expo has officially been released online. "This is a brand-new original film musical from top to bottom, which is very rare, and it is a wonderful opportunity to create something specifically for the screen". Jack helps him pull it down to reveal that none other than Mary Poppins is holding it.
